Eagles WR Marquise Goodwin returns to the 49ers

If you’re a fan of weird NFL transactions, you’ll love this one. ESPN Field Yates Reports (via Twitter) that Eagle wideout Marquise Goodwin has returned to the 49ers, according to the terms of the trade the teams completed last year.

Still, it doesn’t look like the veteran receiver’s second stint in San Francisco will last that long. Yates points out that Goodwin is unlikely to fit into the 49ers’ plans with a wide receiver, and thinks that’s just it. “a procedural move“.

After four seasons at Buffalo, Goodwin joined the 49ers in 2017. He proceeded to a breakout campaign for his new team, with 56 receptions for 962 yards and two touchdowns. However, the receiver was not about to match this production between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, compiling 605 yards from the fight and five scores in 20 games (14 starts).

Goodwin was handed out to the Eagles last April in a deal that saw the 49ers and Eagles change sixth-round picks. The 30-year-old was finally declared an opt-out for the 2020 season, and his term at Philly ends without him taking the field for his new squad.
