Alex Saab: Cape Verde will let you appeal before handing it over to DEA – Research Unit

The Cape Verde Supreme Court has just notified U.S. justice that it did approve the extradition of Alex Saab in this country, before handing it over, it must wait for the appeal to take place before the constitutional court.

That being the case, Saab will not be able to be moved to Miami in the next few hours as the DEA expected: “It can take between two weeks or two months.”

Federal sources say that in the notification of the resolution there is an annotation in which he warns that this right must be respected.

Defense statement

For its part, Saab’s defense called Cape Verde’s decision shameful.

“This is an extraordinary and unprecedented act of disobedience by Cape Verde. It is a day of shame for ECOWAS,” said Femi Falana, in charge of Saab’s defense before the West African Court, ECOWAS.

In a last-minute statement, the defense barranquillero added: “The decision can only be described as” extraordinary and unprecedented “(…) directly challenging the decision of ECOWAS Court of Justice on Monday that ordered its freedom immediately.
