The Denver Broncos have agreed on terms for a two-year contract with runner Mike Boone, according to Mike Klis of KUSA-TV. Boone is a 25-year-old who spent the first three years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings under current Broncos general manager George Paton.
The full terms of the contract are not yet known, but Klis reported that the deal includes $ 2.6 million in guaranteed money.
This could partially explain why Denver offered runner Phillip Lindsay an original offer that will allow him to negotiate with other teams. It looks like Paton is willing to replace Lindsay with Boone.
If Lindsay signs an offer sheet with another team the Broncos don’t want to match, Lindsay’s new team won’t have to exchange any compensation to Denver in exchange for the back.
Boone (5-10, £ 206) could have been signed to serve as a new addition to starter Melvin Gordon. Boone entered the NFL as an unwritten free agent from Cincinnati with the Vikings in 2018.
For the past three years in Minnesota, Boone has served as a key player on special teams and a rotation runner. He ran 71 times for 379 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Boone also grabbed seven passes for 28 yards in 40 career games with the Vikings.
