A Tesla in autopilot mode crashed into the patrol car of a Michigan state soldier in the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to a local report.
The car, driven by a 22-year-old man, crashed into a police vehicle in the Lansing area around 1:10 a.m., while the soldier responded to another car crashing into a deer, WLNS reported. -TV.
No one was injured in the crash. The Tesla driver was issued two summonses for driving with a suspended license and not having moved.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration sent a team to Michigan to investigate.
It is the second time in less than a week that a Tesla has crashed into the state. In the first incident in Detroit, authorities have said it appears the driver did not use the car’s autopilot mode, according to WDIV-TV.
Tesla has previously said that its autopilot and its “full autonomous driving” are driver assistance systems and that the driver must be prepared to intervene at all times.
The National Transportation Safety Board has criticized the company for not properly supervising drivers to make sure they pay attention.
