The FBI on Thursday released new footage of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, asking the public for help in identifying riot police who assaulted police officers during the insurgency.
He videos they show aggressors attacking agents with fists, clubs, unknown chemical sprays, and even a device that resembles a baton stun gun or cattle fists.
In one clip, a man can be seen among a crowd fighting with law enforcement while commanding an apparent electroshock device. He repeatedly repeats the baton-like device to the agents, as it emits a loud buzz and bright flashes.
“These people are seen on video committing flagrant crimes against those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the American people,” Steven D’Antuono, head of the FBI’s Washington office, said in a video statement.
He added that the office has arrested more than 300 people accused of participating in the riot, including more than 65 who have been accused of assaulting police officers.
“We are grateful to members of the public who have already been a great help in these investigations,” he added. “We know it can be a difficult decision to report information about family, friends or co-workers, but it’s the right one and the FBI still needs your help to identify these suspects.”
Additional images come days after two men were arrested and charged with assaulting police officers for allegedly spraying a group of police officers with an unknown chemical irritant during the riot. According to the charge documents, U.S. Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick, who died Jan. 7, was one of those who had been assaulted by the two men.
Authorities have not yet revealed the cause of Sicknick’s death and have not alleged that the two men arrested this week were responsible.
