Switch owners will not receive Elysium disc: the final cut until this summer, but there are already problems ahead for Australian players. Launched on March 30 for PlayStation and Stadia owners, the Australian government has refused to classify it, banning sales in the country.
They have not specified exactly why a rating on Disco Elysium has been declined and ZA / UM has not yet publicly responded. However, given that the basic mechanics of the game include drugs and alcohol, we can assume that the Australian Classification Council issued this statement:
Computer games are classified RC … as computer games that describe, express, or treat issues of sex, drug abuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence, or outrageous or abominable phenomena that offend standards of morality, decency, and property generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.
Needless to say, this may be a mistake on the part of the Classification Board. In November, the Bloober team The Middle the classification in Australia was also denied, although in this case it was canceled not long before the launch and obtained an R18 + rating.
With the release of Switch just months away, there’s plenty of time to reconsider that decision, but PlayStation owners won’t be so lucky. We will keep you informed when we receive more details.
