Head coach Steve Wojciechowski is at Marquette after seven seasons, the school announced Friday.
The Golden Eagles finished 13-14 overall and 8-11 in the Big East play last season.
“After a thorough evaluation of our program over the past week, which included several conversations with Steve, I concluded that now is the right time for a new leader in our well-known program,” said Bill Scholl, athletic director. of Marquette. “I am confident that our success story and our commitment to developing young people who are leaders on and off the track will attract the highest level of coaching talent. I want to thank Steve for his dedication to our student-athletes such as he represented our men’s basketball program and college. We wish Steve, Lindsay, Jack and Charlie nothing more than the best of the future. “
Wojciechowski participated in two NCAA tournaments in his seven seasons with the Golden Eagles, losing in the first round each time. Last season, they would have made a third appearance in the NCAA tournament behind Markus Howard’s stellar play, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This season, Marquette won notable wins against Wisconsin and Creighton in December, but was unable to take advantage of the rest of the way. A six-game losing streak in seven games in the middle of the Big East ended the Golden Eagles ’NCAA hopes despite winning four of five to end the season.
In seven seasons, Wojciechowski reached 128-95 overall and 59-68 in league play.
The school said Friday it will immediately begin a national search for a replacement.
