SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah has risen by 447 on Friday, with 17 more deaths and 31,146 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Twelve of the deaths reported on Friday occurred before Feb. 19, but were still being investigated by forensic doctors, according to the health department.
The health department estimates that there are 11,063 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah. According to the health department, the average number of continuous positive cases per day for seven days is 474. The percentage of positive tests per day for this period of time communicated with the “people on people” method is now 8.3 %. The seven-day daily positive test rate calculated using the “test over test” method is now 4.2%.
There are currently 176 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 61 in intensive care, according to state data. Approximately 73% of all intensive care beds in Utah are full, including approximately 76% of ICU beds at the state’s 16 reference hospitals, according to health department data. Currently, approximately 55% of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied.
A total of 1,111,185 doses of vaccine have been administered in the state, compared to 1,080,039 on Thursday. A total of 737,243 Utahns have now received at least one dose of vaccine, while 402,988 are fully vaccinated. A total of 1,300,120 doses of vaccine have been sent to Utah.
The new figures indicate a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,320,731 people tested so far by COVID-19 in Utah, 16.4% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests conducted since the pandemic began is now 4,082,117, an increase of 15,565 since Thursday. Of these, 5,967 were tests of people who had not been tested for COVID-19.
The 17 deaths reported on Friday were:
- A man from Cache County who was over 85 years old and resided in a long-term care center
- A Davis County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A Davis County man who was between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- An Iron County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A Salt Lake County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A Salt Lake County man who was between 18 and 24 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A Salt Lake County man who was over 85 and resided in a long-term care center
- A man from Tooele County who was over 85 and who was hospitalized when he died
- Two men from Washington County who were between 65 and 84 years old and were hospitalized when they died
- A woman from Cache County who was between 25 and 44 years old and was hospitalized when she died
- Three women from Salt Lake County who were between 65 and 84 years old and were hospitalized when they died
- A woman in Uintah County who was between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized when she died
- A woman from Washington County who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when she died
- A woman from Weber County who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when she died
Friday’s total gives Utah 380,787 confirmed cases, with 15,241 hospitalizations and 2,058 deaths from the disease. According to the health department, a total of 369,666 cases of COVID-19 are considered recovered.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox presented an update to COVID-19 at a news conference Thursday.
