Gibraltar rocks!
The small British overseas territory, famous for its Gibraltar rock, has become the “first nation in the world” to vaccinate its entire adult population against COVID-19, ITV reported.
Located on the Iberian Peninsula, on the south coast of Spain, with an area of only 2.6 square kilometers and 33,701 residents, Gibraltar reached the milestone on Wednesday while Prime Minister Fabian Picardo thanked the United Kingdom for its contribution to the deployment of vaccines.
The British government provided all doses of jab administered in Gibraltar and delivered by the Royal Air Force.
It was not yet immediately known whether all adults in Gibraltar had received both doses or just one, the media reported.
UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the House of Commons that he was “delighted to be able to tell the House that yesterday Gibraltar became the first nation in the world to complete its entire vaccination program for adults “.
Picardo said: “The loyalty of the people of Gibraltar to the Crown of the United Kingdom has never been and never will be doubtful. In these difficult and difficult times, our deep loyalty has been recognized and paid for.
“The UK has played into the vaccines and we have been one of the beneficiaries of the British family of nations,” he said.
Speaking to the Gibraltar Parliament, he added: “We are all vaccinated or on track to be vaccinated, but we are not yet out of the forest.”
He said that despite the milestone, people should continue to heed the existing restrictions on coronavirus.
In all, Gibraltar has recorded 4,270 cases of the disease, as well as 94 deaths, according to the Sun.
Christian Segovia, a 24-year-old in Gibraltar, told the Associated Press recently: “I have been on the rock for a couple of months now without having stepped on Spain. This is an important part of our lives: crossing the border and visiting new cities every weekend. That’s what I want most. “
