The Kansas City Royals and receiver Salvador Perez have agreed a four-year overtime, the team announced Sunday.
The contract is worth $ 82 million, a source told ESPN, which confirmed several reports, making it the richest bid in Royals history. The Kansas City Star first reported on the financial aspect of Perez’s extension.
Perez’s extension, which begins with the 2022 season, comes after a 2020 season in which he was named AL Comeback Player of the Year.
He missed the 2019 season after being operated on by Tommy John, but returned with a bang in the 20’s shortcut campaign The 2015 World Series MVP achieved the best .333 of his career with 11 homers and 32 RBI in 37 games.
His .633 slugging percentage, high in career, was the second highest in Royals history, following only George Brett (.664 in 1980). And he became the third catcher since 1900 to record multitasking games, including extra-base success, in six consecutive contests (September 11-18).
Perez has won the Gold Glove five times and the Royals have their ability to get the best out of their pitchers to help a young and promising starting spin that they hope will take them back to the playoffs.
It has also proven to be durable behind the plate. Perez played in at least 129 games for six consecutive seasons until he lost the 2019 season.
Perez, 30, is nearing his tenth major league season, all with Kansas City. For his career, he has reduced .269 / .300 / .449.
