There is only one thing no open at the southern border: access to the media for customs and border protection operations. In a totalitarian effort to hide the truth, the Biden administration has blocked the press.
Veteran photojournalist John Moore sounded the alarm on Twitter over the weekend: “I respectfully call on U.S. Customs and Border Protection to stop blocking media access to its border operations,” he wrote. “I photographed CBP under Bush, Obama and Trump, but now: there is zero access to the media. These long-lens images taken from the Mexican side.”
True: he had to cross the border himself to shoot without restrictions. There is more freedom of the press in Mexico than in the United States.
Because most migrants cross federal lands, the feds have the power to keep the press away, but Moore says “there are no precedents” for them to do so on this scale. It may just be because Biden wants to hide the extent of his complete failure at the border and how many people are agitating.
Moore is certainly right that “showing the U.S. response to the current increase in immigrants is exactly the role of the media.” And the Biden team’s unprecedented effort to avoid this scrutiny is truly embarrassing.
