The Fox News anchor erroneously reports that the DHS secretary had resigned during Trump’s interview

“I want to get to this because it just happened now,” Faulkner told Trump as he attacked the Biden administration for the increase in migrants on the U.S.-Mexico border. “I want to check it out again with our producers.”

Faulkner continued, “DHS Secretary Alexander Mayorkas has resigned, Mr. President.”

Trump, who attacked Mayorkas as “pathetic” and “clueless” in a statement Sunday, celebrated then.

“It doesn’t surprise me,” Trump said. “Well. This is a great victory for our country.”

Faulkner, visibly confused as she tried to listen to her producers, withdrew.

“Wait. Let me, let me. Let me listen to my team once again,” Faulkner said. “Forgive me. Forgive me. This hasn’t happened, but … I’m sorry.”

Faulkner suggested that he “listen to the team” and Trump at the same time had caused a confusion that caused the mistake.

A Fox spokesman said “the error stemmed from an audio problem in a virtual work environment. We corrected the error and continued with the interview.”

However, it is unusual for a national news presenter to report inaccurately on the resignation of a cabinet secretary, especially when there was no reason to believe that such resignation occurred.
