Former President Donald Trump on Monday declined to confirm reports that he was willing to return to social media, but said he meanwhile enjoys more press releases via email than his previous Twitter feed.
“We have a lot of options and something will happen with social media if I want it to happen,” Trump said in an interview with Greg Kelly on Newsmax.
Trump’s top adviser Jason Miller told Fox News on Sunday that “I think we’ll see President Trump return to social media in about two to three months with his own platform.”
But Trump, who formerly posted captivating tweets throughout the day, insisted Kelly really enjoyed his breakup with social media after Twitter, and Facebook downgraded him after the January 6 Capitol Uprising. He said companies did him “a favor.”
“I have huge options because you know I probably had 200, more than 200 million people when you add it all up, and that’s a lot. That’s a registration issue and all of a sudden they decide there are too many people, and so they cut it. Trump said.
“I think I’m doing it, and it was only alluded to, that I make press releases. And, frankly, they are more elegant than tweeting, according to the expression, they are much more elegant and the word is coming out ”.
Trump said email statements “take less time. It’s probably a better way and everyone expects it.”
“You know, it works for me. For other people, it would not work because a press release does not mean so much, “Trump added.
“But when I publish, you know when I publish a press release, you see what happens. Everyone is waiting and I think I get better coverage and more with this than with the tweets. And tweeting gets you in trouble because you retweet people and you discover that the retweets weren’t that good because the person, if you haven’t researched, that you’re retweeting isn’t the best. So from time to time it costs you a bit of difficulty. But no, I like it more than Twitter. In fact, they did us a favor, that’s better. “
Trump was asked if his next foray into social media would be with the help of Peter Thiel, the co-founder of Paypal and Facebook’s first investor, who was a supporter of his 2016 campaign. .
“Well, Peter is a fantastic guy. He has been a supporter and is a brilliant man from essentially Silicon Valley. And he has done a tremendous job. But no, I have huge options, ”Trump said.
