A British beautician, who was going to Ibiza to comfort the loved ones of a friend who died of an overdose, was kicked out of Ryanair flight when she drunkenly refused to wear a mask, according to a report.
Hayley Box, 34, a single mother of two, was arrested after boarding the plane in September without showing her passport and being abusive to flight attendants and police, Cavendish Press reported in a court hearing .
She later claimed she was so calm, that she didn’t even remember getting on the plane at Manchester Airport after dropping off her children with a guard and spending the night at the Clayton Hotel, according to the newspaper.
Box, from Shifnal, Shropshire, would have drunk a whole bottle of wine in his room and then consumed another large glass at the airport before arriving on the 6am flight.
“The director of the booth asked him to put on the face mask, but the defendant did not comply,” prosecutor Rachel Dixon said Monday.
The cabin manager said the defendant responded and listened to the instructions slowly. The defendant was also asked several times for her passport, but did not comply with those requests, “Dixon continued.
“The cockpit chief made the decision to remove her from the plane and asked her to leave,” he said.
“She did not comply and he told her that she could leave voluntarily or leave with the police. Then he decided to fasten his seat belt and contacted the police, ”added Dixon.
“When the police arrived, the accused stood up and became quite aggressive. He began to cry claiming that his friend had died and that he needed to go to Ibiza. When police began to climb the steps, he withdrew. But the defendant tried to get back on the plane and they took her out again. “
Dixon said the woman began swearing at police and pushing her as they drove her to a police van where she was eventually subdued.
“He said he did not remember the incident. He said his actions were lack of sleep, not eating food and consuming wine too quickly. It was a pretty long incident, “Dixon said.
Box, whose business offers beauty treatments and anti-wrinkle injections, admitted to being drunk and was fined £ 120, about $ 166.
His lawyer said the woman was “mortified and ashamed.”
“He explains that he lost a friend in Ibiza due to an overdose in August 2020 and the reason he went to Ibiza was to comfort his friends,” Jane Shaw said.
