Happy World Weather Day!
It was on this date in 1950 that the World Meteorological Organization developed as a specialized agency within the United Nations. WMO is making a world of good, such as efforts to reduce natural disasters through better alert systems, standardization of equipment, and international weather observation observations, and of course, research on climate change.
Several years ago I had the privilege of visiting the WMO headquarters in Geneva and interviewing the Secretary-General in his office, and it is amazing what the WMO has achieved in the last seven decades.
A little closer to home, although on Tuesday we will have more clouds than we have seen in the last three days together, we will still have at least a partial sun at times and the unusually warm air mass is still with us. As such, the highs will reach the mid-60s today. However, we will have a southeast wind of 8 to 13 mph and, as you know people on the east side, this early spring breeze will keep you much cooler from the cold waters of the Great Lakes.
Announcements
Tuesday sunrise is at 7:31 am Sunset is at 7:49 pm
Mostly cloudy Tuesday night, with scattered showers. Rainfall will be light and will not affect the moderate drought and abnormally dry conditions that are being experienced in much of southeast Michigan (Metro Airport has only received 0.03 inches of rain so far this month). ). The lows will be around 50 degrees, which is our MAXIMUM average at this time of year. Southeast wind continues, 5 to 10 mph.
Scattered showers will end on Wednesday morning, then become partly cloudy and windy. A lost rain or thunderstorm north of the M-59 and west of I-75 cannot be completely ruled out, but most of us should stay dry Wednesday afternoon. The highs will be close to 70 degrees.
It will be partly cloudy Wednesday night, with lows in the upper 40s.
Thursday becomes cloudy, with rain in the afternoon. The highs will be in the low 60s.
