Apple’s beta versions continue to give clues about the hardware without warning, with Tuesday’s macOS Big Sur 11.3 version including references to two new iMac designations.
Seen by 9to5Mac, the beta version of macOS Big Sur released to developers today includes hardware identifiers for “iMac21.1” and “iMac21.2”, both of which do not match existing iMac models.
Depending on the site, “iMac21.1” and “iMac21.2” correspond to iMacs codenamed J456 and J457. In January, Bloomberg surpassed these designations as next-generation replacements for the current 21.5-inch iMac and 27-inch iMac, which are due to cool this spring.
Apple is expected to soon introduce a new iMac line driven by a variation of its M1 chip. Previous reports point to a redesigned chassis that borrows features from Apple’s iPhone and iPad angular devices. It is also rumored that there are new color options.
