The ninth and again courtship between the Cleveland Browns and defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was renewed Wednesday. The Browns welcomed Clowney, a free agent, on a visit.
Clowney left the team’s facilities and returned home unsigned with the team, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The visit made the official list of NFL transactions for the day, but there were no signs of signing.
It is the latest revival of interest between the Browns and Clowney, which has sparked several sparks throughout the year. The Browns heavily courted Clowney, also a free agent before last season, but never reached an agreement. The No. 1 draft pick in the 2014 NFL draft signed with the Tennessee Titans, however, reached a one-year, $ 13 million deal.
The Titans didn’t get much shock from their investment. Clowney could not record a single sack, managing only four TFLs between 19 attacks in eight games. He has only had three sacks in 21 games in the last two seasons, although 28-year-old Clowney remains an above-average defender and still puts pressure on both the final and inside presence.
Clowney continues to struggle with knee injuries that have constantly hampered his career. His 2020 season soon ended with a torn meniscus that leaves his status questionable for the start of the 2021 season.
