MEXICO CITY – Like the classic thrillers, the new Netflix Latin American series “Who Killed Sara?” it starts with a shocking death the protagonists try to solve … or hide, depending on their interests.
Sara, played by Ximena Lamadrid, dies on a holiday weekend and her brother Alex (Leo Deluglio in his younger version and Manolo Cardona as an adult), the best friend of her boyfriend Rodolfo (Alejandro Nones), suspects that he killed her and seeks revenge.
“Things are evolving, we’re realizing what really happened,” Senars said in a recent phone interview about Wednesday’s premiere.
“I really like the way this story is told, the comings and goings, the telling of things that happened. And I really like how it is also told at certain times with the music and with a collage of images. “, he added. “I found this narrative very interesting and especially father (chévere) to see in Latin America.”
Rodolfo is also the eldest son of the Lazcanoes, a wealthy casino-owning family that moves its influences so that Alex is charged with murder and thus preserving his legacy. Rodolfo’s parents are quite controlling, especially the patriarch César, played by Spanish actor Ginés García Millán.
“The Lazcano family is definitely a very particular family, a family that looks like a lot of things, but the reality is that it’s not as solid as it sounds,” Nones said. “They have an empire of casinos in Mexico and throughout history we are discovering that next to that there are other businesses out there that are not so legal.”
With the commitment to follow in his father’s footsteps, Rodolfo goes on with his life after Sara’s death, but time fails to take that weight off him.
“He’s to blame. He’s 18 years old,” Nones said. “For not having the pants to make important decisions at the right time, definitely carrying that 18-year-old weight is extremely strong and terrible.”
Production began before the coronavirus pandemic and had to stop during quarantine, but resumed and ended the first season. At the moment they have not confirmed if there will be a second.
What is a fact is that in addition to its release in 190 countries will be the first Spanish-speaking series of the streaming service dubbed into eight languages, including Portuguese, English, French, Italian, Turkish, Polish, Hindi and German.
“Who May Sara?”, The cast is completed by Claudia Ramírez, Carolina Miranda and Eugenio Siller, is produced by Alexis Fridman and Juan Uruchurtu. The plot is a creation of the Chilean screenwriter and writer José Ignacio “Chascas” Valenzuela.
“I talk a lot with Chascas,” Nones said. “I always contact him in sessions where he could express what his vision of the character is and that as an actor helps you to enrich a lot and to have more information and to have everything clearer.”
If anything makes the series clear, it is that the decisions one makes in youth can have repercussions many years later.
“I would tell my past self that calm, that everything will be fine,” said the Venezuelan actor based in Mexico for almost 20 years. “A thousand times one has done a foolish thing that after great says, ‘how is this possible, what was he thinking?’ But it’s part of the process of growing and becoming more aware of things and evolving in a positive way. “
