Sean Tillman, the musician best known as Har Mar Superstar, issued a statement tonight after several women filed allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment. Star Tribune reports. Tillman denies a woman’s allegations in his statement, but on the other hand offers a general apology for his past behavior.
A woman told the Star Tribune that Tillman was a friend he trusted “completely” until he allegedly exposed his penis and stuck it in his face at home in 2016. Three people confirmed to the Star Tribune that he had told them that story shortly after it was supposed to occur.
Tillman “categorically” denied the woman’s statements in a statement tonight, which otherwise presented a general apology: “I take these statements very seriously. I deeply regret anyone who feels I have hurt them.” He admitted “harmful, abusive and selfish behavior.” Two more women spoke to him Star Tribune alleging cases of misconduct between 2014 and 2017.
“A few years ago, I began a process of being honest with myself about how, fueled by a toxic mix of alcohol, drugs, and chivalrous sexuality, it hurt the people around me and failed me and myself.” he wrote. “I deeply and sincerely regret the harm I have caused.” Find their full statement below.
Complaints against Tillman caused First Avenue to cancel Tillman’s planned Heart Bones concert. “Once we became aware of the allegations, we considered it the best decision to withdraw from the show until there were no responsibilities,” the venue said in a statement. “First Avenue takes all allegations of harassment and assault seriously.” 89.3 the Current radio station has stopped playing its music.
