Kremlin critic jailed Alexey Navalny in “strong” pain and his team fears for his life, according to the lawyer

Imprisoned Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny His lawyer said Thursday after visiting him in prison and added that the Allies were afraid of his life.

“He suffers from severe back pain and pain in his right leg,” lawyer Olga Mikhailova said in statements to Dozhd television. “Everyone is afraid of their life and health.”

Earlier this month, Navalny was transferred at a prison about 90 kilometers from Moscow and housed in solitary confinement, his lawyer Vadim Kobzev told CBS News.

Navalny was arrested on January 17 immediately after returning to Moscow from Germany, where he spent five months recovering from intoxication with a Soviet-era nerve agent. His arrest sparked weeks of mass protests, with thousands gathering on the streets of Russian cities, including the capital, where large crowds gathered outside the detention facility where he had been detained until the last week.

Thousands were arrested amid fierce clashes with riot police.

Navalny was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison last month for violating the terms of a previous suspended sentence. He has always rejected all charges against him for political motivation.

Earlier this month, the Biden administration announced it imposing sanctions to seven senior Russian government officials in response to Navalny’s poisoning and arrest.
