Police told The Hill that Cannon was taken to the Fulton County Jail, where she was charged with obstruction of law enforcement, as well as “preventing or interrupting General Assembly sessions or other member meetings ”.
Cannon noted that the contentious bill was signed just days after eight people, including several American Asians, were killed in a shooting aimed at massage parlors in the Atlanta area.
“And let’s not be fooled, when I say hate, I mean white supremacy. The closed – door signature of # SB202 and the senseless murder of #AAPI Georgians are products of a white supremacist system. Different tactics, same goal: fear and control “, wrote the legislator.
“We will not live in fear and we will not be controlled. We have a right to our future and a right to freedom. We will come together and continue to fight against white supremacy in all its forms, “he continued.

Lieutenant W. Mark Riley, director of public information for the Georgia State Patrol, said Cannon was ordered to stop knocking on the door, which was marked with a “Governor’s Staff Only” sign.
“Again she was warned if she did not stop, she would be arrested for obstruction and disrupting the press conference,” he added. “Representative Cannon refused to stop knocking on the door” and was “arrested and escorted outside the Capitol.”

Cannon’s blows came when Kemp organized a live event for the signing of one controversial bill which includes voting restrictions, including limiting the use of ballot boxes and setting photo identification requirements for voting in absentia.
Cannon, 24, is Georgia’s youngest lawmaker and one of three openly gay lawmakers elected to the state House in 2016, according to CNN.
His arrest was immediately condemned by Bernice King, daughter of the late civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., who called her “despicable.”
“I applaud his courage and his courage, because we are now in those times,” King said of Cannon. “Not in a violent way, but in a non-violent way, we must be willing to be brave and continue to let our voices, strategies and mobilizations be heard, and sometimes we have to sacrifice where it hurts us. ”
