The Maritime Action Ship (BAM) Furor from Navy has participated this week in the multinational exercise Obangame Express 21, Maneuvers organized by the United States in the Gulf of Guinea, through its Operational Command in Africa (Africom), And in which a total of thirty-three countries have participated.
This BAM is carrying out the mission African deployment, Integrated in the Maritime Operations Command (MOM), Under operational control of the Operations Command (MOPS). “This operation makes it possible to improve knowledge of the maritime environment on the coast of West Africa and the Gulf of Guinea and to carry out cooperative security and defense diplomacy activities with riparian countries,” recalls Emad.
The Furor took place at sea from the port of Tema (Ghana) on March 19, following the opening ceremony and the initial pre-maneuver coordination meeting. For five days, the Spanish ship has collaborated with the countries bordering the Gulf of Guinea, including Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia, in exercises related to the Maritime Security (Segmar).
According to Emad, he has worked on what is called Maritime Regional Training, Which aims to “support and help increase its Segmar capabilities, and improve its coordination and cooperation procedures within the framework of the regional architecture established following the 2013 Yaoundé process”.
Ships from allied countries belonging to the United States have also been present during the year European union which has made it possible to carry out more combined maneuvers within the framework of the project Coordinated Maritime Presence (CMP, For the acronym in English).
