Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she is not actively considering new restrictions as COVID cases continue to rise in the state.

For companies operating with 50% capacity, the increase in figures is a cause for concern.
“I mean when it comes to increasing numbers, it’s scary,” said Nick Waligora, Pitaya’s manager. “No one wants to hear that, especially with the circulation of the vaccine.”
Speaking at the Michigan Chronicle’s Pancakes and Politics event, Whitmer noted that many have made masks and social distancing a part of their routine.

“Here’s what’s different from the spring hike or even the fall hike: we now know a lot more about our common enemy COVID-19,” Whitmer said. “And so we’ve been able to take a more nuanced attack to keep people safe and re-engage sectors of our economy.”
And when it comes to vaccine distribution, 3.6 million Michiganders have had at least one shot and 16.5% of our population has had both.
“As cases increase, so does the number of people vaccinated,” Joel Padilla said.
Padilla said his family and staff at The Birth of Taqueria in Detroit have been completely vaccinated. While safety is paramount, it expects capabilities not to be reduced.
“50% of our staff is virtually out of work because the waitresses depend on tables,” Padilla said.

He believes the focus should be on increasing the distribution of vaccines, rather than increasing restrictions.

“Whenever we move forward vaccinating everyone so we can achieve herd immunity, get back to normal and get back to reality,” Waligora agreed.
