NFL 2021 Free Agency Qualification

The Vikings ’corner unit was up and down by 2020.

Corners Cameron Dantzler and Jeff Gladney were hit at the start, before the two found their way into the league. Mike Hughes re-treated the injuries. And Holton Hill was exonerated from the injured reserve.

Despite the struggles, the cornering corps has something to build for future seasons. The Vikings have younger players coming out of promising seasons. The team also added free agency veterans to help consolidate the unit.

Mackensie Alexander is one of those veterans. Per Alexander’s agent i Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Vikings are reunited with their old nickel corner.

I think this agreement is a big move for both parties. Alexander can play the role of nickel corner of a team that had no corner depth in 2020. He knows the Vikings ’scheme, is a solid striker and has decent coverage. Not only that, but Minnesota is also expected to sign him at the veteran minimum plus a signing bonus, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

I think Gladney can still compete for places, but as I am, I guess Patrick Peterson and Dantzler are the two wide corners and Alexander is the nickel corner. Minnesota improved their corner unit this offseason and the team didn’t have to give up a ton to do so.
