The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as a strong favorite to sign free agent pivot Andre Drummond, sources told ESPN.
The Lakers stars have been on the Drummond court, and the Lakers ’situation offers him a chance to get into the starting eleven. The player is moving towards the completion of this decision soon, sources said.
Drummond, 27, is due to approve the exemptions Sunday at 5 p.m. ET and will then be able to sign a free agent contract. He became a free agent Friday after coming to a buyout with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Drummond, who has not played since mid-February, began negotiating the terms of the purchase with the Cavs on Thursday after the club did not change him before the deadline.
Drummond, one of the best rebounders in the NBA and a proven scorer, had a contract for $ 28,700,000 this season. He averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in 25 games before the Cavs decided to give Jarrett Allen most of the game time.
