State officials said Saturday they have reached a final agreement on the legislative language needed to legalize the use of adults in New York.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Senate and State Assembly leaders announced the amended marijuana regulation and imposition law agreement Saturday night.
The bill, which is expected to be voted on next week, will split the state’s marijuana industry revenue between schools and public education, communities “disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs,” and drug programs. ‘education, prevention and treatment of drugs, State Sen Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) said.
Boat sales to New Yorkers 21 and older will include a 9% sales tax, plus an additional 4% tax that will be shared between county and city / town / village governments; convicts for sale will have their records automatically removed and the state medical marijuana program expanded.
Cuomo said the legislation could contribute $ 350 million in annual taxes and potentially create 30,000 to 60,000 jobs.
“When this bill becomes law, New York will be willing to implement a nationwide leading model for what may seem like the legalization of marijuana,” Krueger said.
