LaKeith Stanfield plays the black samurai Yasuke in the Netflix anime trailer

Netflix has just added another entry to its growing list of ambitious anime projects, which today releases a trailer for Yasuke, the (semi) historical story of an African man who became a prominent warrior in feudal Japan. It is clear that this part is real; it’s just that The story of Yasuke it is closely intertwined with that of former warlord Oda Nobunaga, and there are no video game creators or anime artists he loves more than pushing a bunch of demons and magic shit into the life of the famous and dreaded Nobunaga.

Hence, presumably, some of the wildest things in the previous trailer, which sees the always capable Voice of LaKeith Stanfield Yasuke, who reportedly arrived in Japan in the late 1500s in the company of Jesuit missionaries, before drawing Nobunaga’s attention. He was eventually named Nobunaga’s bearer of arms, a role that had a great privilege during the time, and Yasuke is generally described as the first black samurai. When Nobunaga was killed, Yasuke fought his killer for a while, and then disappeared from the eyes of history, possibly because he became a demon-fighting boatman subjected to a kind of evil prophecy., if you believe the new anime.

Animation tasks activated Yasuke are being managed by MAPAA, which recently managed the final season of Attack On Titan. The series is scheduled for release on April 29th.
