The marijuana-growing operation burned down in the southern Los Angeles fire

GREEN MEADOWS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) – An apparent marijuana-growing operation caught fire in southern Los Angeles during a major fire Saturday afternoon.

About 170 firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department were sent to fight the flames at 8700 block of South Crocker Street in the Green Meadows neighborhood.

The intense flames kept the fire brigades in a defensive position.

At first, the 300- to 300-story commercial building appeared to be a furniture-making business, but firefighters discovered it actually housed a marijuana farm.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
