RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Former Dominion Energy president, president and CEO Thomas F. Farrell, II, died a day after leaving his leadership role at the company.
Dominion Energy said Farrell, 66, had been battling cancer and had changed in recent weeks.
Farrell served as president, chairman and CEO from 2007 to 2020.
“Tom was an unparalleled mentor and outstanding leader who sought innovative solutions to Dominion Energy’s challenges, in the utility industry and in the community he called,” said President and CEO Robert M .Blue. “In his tenure at the company, Tom oversaw an era of prosperity and growth and a long-term transformation that will have a lasting impact on clean energy development and environmental health. Above all, “He loved spending time with his wife, his children and his spouses and grandchildren. We will miss him very much and give our deepest condolences to his beloved family.”
Farrell became chairman and chief operating officer of Dominion in 2004, and chairman and CEO in 2006, and was elected chairman in 2007, a position he held until April 1.
“During his time as CEO, he focused on the growth of the company’s portfolio of regulated assets, the construction of clean energy facilities, the reduction of pollutant emissions with the commitment of zero net emissions, improving workplace safety, promoting diversity of suppliers and jobs, hiring veterans, strengthening their philanthropy and community presence and more.
