The big patch v1.2 of Cyberpunk 2077 was billed as the big one for CD Projekt RED and, as we pointed out in our hands on PlayStation 5, it has definitely improved the experience. But what about PS4 Pro consoles? Well, Digital Foundry has posted a full analysis and the bottom line is that it’s much, much better, but there are caveats.
The publication reports that while the frame rate is certainly not perfect on Sony’s state-of-the-art supercharged console, it is now much closer to 30 frames per second targets, even in stressful areas, such as the markets. The problem is that the Polish developer has reduced the transfer of assets to achieve this, which means that many objects and materials simply do not appear if you move quickly.
Compensation means that landscape details, such as chairs or advertising devices, are hidden unless you stop and wait for them to load. Depending on how fast you move, the game may not stream them at all. Viouslybviamente, the version suffers pop-in on all consoles anyway, so it may not be the end of the world, and has greatly improved the performance of PS4 Pro.
Unfortunately, things are still more or less the same on a standard PS4, where the frame rate is everywhere. Digital Foundry reports that there are minor improvements in key areas, such as the chase sequence at the beginning of the game, which earns a few extra frames, but overall isn’t good enough. Our takeaway from all this? We can’t imagine a return to the PS store coming soon.
