Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issues order banning “vaccine passports”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Monday issued an executive order banning so-called “vaccine passports,” according to which a system to track those who have been inoculated against COVID-19 violates citizens ’rights.

“Every day, jeans return to normal life as more people receive the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine. But, as I have always said, these vaccines are always voluntary and never forced,” Abbott said in announcing the executive order.

“The government should not require any Texan to prove vaccination evidence and disclose private health information to devote to their daily lives,” he added. “That’s why I issued an executive order banning government-required vaccine passports in Texas. We will continue to vaccinate more jeans and protect public health, and we will do so without violating the personal freedoms of jeans.”

Abbott has been under heat for the past few weeks for lifting a statewide mask warrant and handling a major snowstorm that left residents without electricity and heat for days.

Another Republican, the governor. Ron DeSantisFlorida Democratic Mayor Ron DeSantis is calling for “60-minute” reports on the state’s deployment of vaccines to be “intentionally false.” The EPA chief highlights water improvement provisions in the infrastructure bill. of Florida last week pledged to take similar executive action to prevent companies from needing vaccine passports before providing services to customers.

“We always said we wanted to provide it for everyone, but demand it for none,” DeSantis said. “And that was something that, while it was advised to take especially if you’re vulnerable, we wouldn’t force you to do it.”

DeSantis considered it “completely unacceptable for the government or the private sector to impose on you the requirement to prove the vaccine in order to simply participate in normal society.”
