The Secretary of the Interior, Noelia García Bardales, announced today, Tuesday, that Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia Urrutia will be contemplating more restrictive changes in the current Executive Order, which expires on Monday next week.
At a press conference from the Fortress, the cabinet official explained that the executive is still contemplating stricter changes and expects to announce them later in the week.
“The governor will be expressing himself promptly. He has his ear on the ground. The statistics are being analyzed and we must certainly call for caution,” Garcia Bardales said after a meeting with the legislative delegations of the New Progressive Party.
“What we have to a million vaccinated people does not change the recipe for COVID-19. The recipe is still distancing, masking and prevention,” he told media questions.
The expressions arise after a rise in COVID-19 cases in Puerto Rico has been increasing since the past few weeks, reaching today the highest peak of hospitalizations since the beginning of the year.
In turn, the announcement comes a week after the designated Secretary of Health, Carlos Mellado López, announced the registration of several cases of various variants of the virus, 1 of these incidents resulting in the death of a Puerto Rican.
“We remain in the position that if changes are needed, indeed changes will be made. The current Order expires on Monday, prior to that, it will be announced if it is extended and if there are amendments,” he concluded.
