Whenever Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network talks about anything related to the NFL draft, it would be wise to listen to it. And yesterday, Jeremies talked about almost the first round of this year’s event: he broke his last 2021 mock stage to explore what the Miami Dolphins and the rest of the league could do at the end of the month. Jeremies ’draft drill featured four quarterbacks in the top four picks; a development that certainly helped the cause of the Dolphins to secure a first-rate step catcher in this scenario.
But with the options comes the opportunity to make a right (or wrong) decision. What measure did Jeremiah take for the dolphins? Here are his two options for Miami in the first round of his latest simulation of 2021:
6th overall: WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU Tigers
“Miami went up again after shifting to No. 12, cautiously figuring they could get Pitts or Chase with the sixth pick.” – Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com
Num. 18 in general: DE Gregory Rousseau, Miami Hurricanes
“Rousseau had a certain rigidity in his professional day training, which worried some teams. That said, look at their combination of size, length and production. Plus, his impressive 10-yard (1.57 seconds) split time will carry a lot of weight in the assessments. ”- Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com
With Florida TE Kyle Pitts coming off the board at No. 5 against the Dolphins, the decision with the Dolphins ’first selection came from Chase or presumably Penei Sewell. But given Miami’s investments in the offensive line in 2020 and the depth of this year’s offensive line class, Jeremies felt inspired to offer Dolphins Chase. The LSU product is the same player that is often projected on the Dolphins at number 3 overall.
Rousseau is a bit of a surprise; as Jeremiah mentioned, Rousseau’s Pro Day numbers were a bit disappointing after not playing in 2020. But there is little doubt that this long-distance runner will fit into the mold of a Dolphins runner and fit on the line.
