Survival games like No Man’s Sky and Valheim are huge these days, so Abandoned could become a key title in the PlayStation 5 software library. In production at Dutch developer Blue Box Game Studios, the next exclusive to be released later this year promises a “cinematic first-person horror survival shooter set in a highly detailed open world environment”. While the project has been early, the image is impressive at times in this trailer.
“The story centers around Jason Longfield, who wakes up in a strange forest,” the PlayStation blog post says. “Abandoned and unable to remember how he got there, Jason soon finds out that he was kidnapped and taken away for a dark purpose. Fighting for his survival, his main goal is to escape.
The title is aimed at realism, so everything you do has a consequence. “If Jason runs out of breath after sprinting (or is scared), his shooting accuracy will suffer,” explained game director Hasan Kahraman. “Unlike action shooting titles, firing guns at Abandoned will be realistic in a slow way. You have to be tactical to survive. ”

Exclusive to PS5, the release will include full support for the DualSense driver, as well as 3D audio functionality. “Our team continues to unleash the power of PS5, but so far we have made incredible progress,” Kahraman continued. “The console allows us to process high quality motion captures, running at 60 frames per second and rendered at a native 4K resolution. We make sure that the environmental quality is as close as possible to reality. “
Although the teaser trailer is scarce in game footage, Blue Box Game Studios promises to release new footage soon. This certainly looks promising, and it’s certainly at the pulse of what’s popular right now: survival games are bigger than ever, after all. As a PS5 exclusive, though, we can’t help but feel that this announcement is a bit understated; perhaps his next revelation will really increase interest.
