Pharrell Williams has called for a federal investigation into Virginia Beach police who shot her cousin last month.
“There are too many unanswered questions about the city and the state. Respectfully, I call for a federal investigation, “the Grammy-winning singer wrote in a post Monday on Instagram about the deadly shooting of her 25-year-old relative, Donovan Lynch.
Lynch was shot by police a block from a separate shooting in Virginia Beach that left eight people injured.
The Virginia Beach police department has said Lynch was armed with a gun when an officer shot him.
The body camera of the officer who fired the deadly shot was not activated during the shooting, prompting public outrage.
Investigations into the shooting of the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and Virginia state police continue.
Lynch, a Virginia Beach resident, had been an offensive lineman for Virginia’s College University in Wise during the 2017 and 2018 seasons and had graduated from the school in 2019.
