When it comes to NFL quarterbacks, that’s when it comes to form. Trying to classify quarterback prospects for the NFL draft in a general sense is one thing, but usually the rankings you see from NFL experts can vary a lot, but the big individual boards of NFL teams are very specialized.
One thing we can say for sure, is that we feel that once the first round starts, you will see four quarterbacks come off the board very quickly. The teams have been making moves to get to the top of the first round and it’s safe to assume that it’s about drafting one of the main interlocutors.
However, if these draft experts are to be believed, the fifth quarterback in the draft could slip into the middle of the first round. Who is this fifth quarterback? It depends on who you ask. At one point, it was firmly Mac Jones of Alabama. He now appears to be a beloved draft pick and will be the third quarterback taken.
This leaves Justin Fields of Ohio State and Trey Lance in the state of North Dakota. Does it matter which man slips when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers? I would say no. Both players have the skills to thrive on a Matt Canada offense and would take the Steelers offense to the present and build for the future.
To what extent should the Steelers negotiate? Given the market, rising to number 10 should do so and there are precedents for this type of Pittsburgh move when they identify a player they really think they need.
But I want to get the question to you. If Fields or Lance slide into the top five, do you want the Steelers to change and draft? Let us know in the comments.
