California predicts 90% drop in Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines next week

BERKELEY, California (KGO) – At a time when we need more vaccines, California is about to see a significant drop in Johnson & Johnson doses, not just a few hundred or even a few thousand doses, we’re talking about a drop of almost 90%.

We will also see an 85% drop in Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses nationwide. Instead of the nearly 5 million doses the government sent this week, next week it will only send 785,500.

Johnson & Johnson said last week one of its lots did not meet its standards. The New York Times reported that workers were mixing ingredients and ruining 15 million doses.

If you try to get appointments next week when eligibility opens and you have issues, this could explain why. Demand will increase as supply goes down.

The governor said receiving the vaccine from all eligible Californians could take up to a month.
