Michigan coronavirus cases up to 723,297; The death toll is now 16,400

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 723,297 as of Thursday, including 16,400 deaths, state officials report.

Thursday’s update includes a total of 7,819 new cases and 73 additional deaths, including 43 from a Vital Records review. On Wednesday, the state reported a total of 715,478 cases and 16,327 deaths.

Tests have been constant at around 35,000 diagnostic tests reported daily on average, with the Positive rate of 7 days above 16% as of Wednesday, the highest since early December. The state has reported an increase in hospitalizations in recent weeks, now at its highest point since mid-December.

Michigan’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 6,174 on Wednesday, the highest since December. The seven-day average death toll was 31 on Wednesday, slightly higher than in the last two weeks. The state mortality rate is 2.3%. The state also reports “active cases,” which were recorded Tuesday at 122,000. More than 577,000 have recovered in Michigan.

Michigan has reported more than that 4.9 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered from Wednesday, with 37% of residents have received at least one dose.
