BALTIMORE – Eduardo Rodriguez returned triumphant after coronavirus-induced myocarditis that sidelined him from the 2020 season, and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 on Thursday, who fell in their inaugural campaign game at home.
The Dominican Rafael Devers and the Puerto Rican Kike Hernández fired home runs for the Red Sox, who have won four consecutive matches, something they did not achieve from the period from 14 to 18 August 2019.
Boston has scored 33 combined runs in all four wins. He had scored just five to be swept by the Orioles during a three-game series at Fenway Park.
A day after turning 28, Rodriguez first appeared in the majors since September 29, 2019, when he faced the Orioles themselves at Fenway Park.
The Venezuelan began the previous campaign on the injured list, after feeling his arm fall asleep during the preseason.
Rodriguez (1-0) allowed three runs in five innings. He accepted 4 p.m. hits, including two-run homers from Ryan Mountcastle in the first inning and Dominican Pere Severino in the fourth.
He struck out seven rivals and handed out a ticket. Its straight line reaches even 94.7 mph.
The defeat was by Matt Harvey (0-1).
