A Texas child fatally shot by a 3-year-old brother

HOUSTON – Police believe his 3-year-old brother fatally shot a child after the older boy grabbed a gun inside a Houston apartment.

The child was shot in the abdomen Friday morning, said Wendy Baimbridge, deputy head of the Houston police department.

Several adults who were inside the apartment drove the 8-month-old boy to a hospital, where he died.

“I just want to take this opportunity and pray for parents and guardians everywhere not to allow your guns to be accessible to everyone in the house. Close them. There are things you can do to protect this weapon. Please pray for this family. That’s just a tragic fact, ”Baimbridge said.

Investigators were initially unable to locate the weapon used in the shooting, but later found it inside the vehicle the relatives had used to take the baby to the hospital.

Investigators and prosecutors are still determining whether charges will be filed in the case, Baimbridge said.
