It is an unidentified floating object.
Oregon officials are trying to determine if the debris that was thrown to the ground on Friday afternoon belonged to a SpaceX rocket.
More than 100 SpaceX rockets have been launched into orbit since 2010.
The alleged space junk, a large black cylindrical tube, was washed along Alsea Bay in Lincoln County and reported to local police shortly afterwards, according to an Oregonian report.
Authorities who contacted SpaceX said the object could be a “wrapped composite pressure vessel,” which is commonly found in spacecraft.
The object was considered non-dangerous and transported to an unidentified location for further study.
SpaceX representatives did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
