NEW YORK – Marcus Stroman wasn’t happy that the New York Mets had started Sunday’s game against the Miami Marlins in constant rain, which interrupted his outing after nine pitches.
The match started at 13.10 and was stopped by referee DJ Reyburn after 7 minutes.
The local teams decide if they want to start the games. Once the game has started, the referees decide whether to stop playing due to bad weather.
Stroman took to Twitter during the rain delay to express his displeasure.
“This game should never have started. It’s not smart at all,” Stroman said he tweeted. “These conditions put everyone at risk. Beyond happiness, no player on either side was injured. I hate having to wait 5 more days to throw again. It’s a miserable feeling.”
While Mets manager Luis Rojas started Stroman, Miami manager Don Mattingly opted to use reliever John Curtiss as the opener. The Marlins beat at the top of the first.
