“With leaders like Mitch McConnell, they are powerless to fight. He did not fight for the presidency and will not fight for the Court,” Trump said in a statement released by Save America PAC. “If and when that happens, I hope the judges remember the day they didn’t have the courage to do what they should have done for America.”
Trump said it would be “ironic” if Democrats packed the court after the current contingent of judges, led by Republicans 6-3, rejected the electoral challenges of Trump and his allies in several states.
Trump appointed and McConnell helped confirm three of those judges during Trump’s tenure in the White House.
The Hill has contacted McConnell to comment.
In the statement, Trump warned that the court would be “packed by the same people, the Democrats of the radical left (who they are so afraid of!), Who they so pathetically defended by not hearing the case of election fraud.”
Trump’s comments come after Biden signed an executive order on Friday to set up a commission to study whether to add Supreme Court seats and other reform proposals.
The commission will study the issue of potential court expansion, which has been discussed among progressives but heavily criticized by Republicans, including Trump on the campaign trail.
In a statement on Friday, McConnell described the creation of the Biden commission as a “direct assault on our nation’s independent judiciary and another sign of the Far Left’s influence over the Biden Administration.”
“President Biden campaigned with the promise of lowering the temperature and uniting a divided nation. If he really meant it, he would stop giving oxygen to a dangerous and old-fashioned idea and join supporters who sold it,” he added. later.
Trump fought McConnell frequently during his presidency for a term, culminating in the two men no longer speaking after the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol by a pro-Trump crowd.
Over the weekend, Trump called the Kentucky Republican a “dumb son of a bitch” in front of members of the Republican National Committee for doing nothing more to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in his favor.
