White rabbits are being judged on January 28, 2012 in Harrogate, England. Approximately 3,000 animals attend the annual two-day show, which was first held in 1921. The Rabbit Grand National attracts competitors from places as far away as Sweden to Yorkshire.
During the current week, through social media, the short film of the rabbit Ralph went viral. This short video, which has been animated, narrates the tortuous life that Ralph leads in what is called “his job”, when he is subjected to various tests of beauty and cosmetics items that will later be manufactured and launched in the market for human use.
The science fiction video describing the problem of animal abuse has been played more than 400,000 times on social media, as part of a campaign led by the International Society for the Protection of Animals.
Jeffrey Flocken, president of Humane Society International, told Blu Radio that “#SaveRalph is a wake-up call to the fact that animals still suffer from cosmetics and that the time has come for this to stop.”
In about four minutes of the video, Taika Waititi, Ricky Gervais, Zac Efron, Olivia Munn, Pom Klementieff, Tricia Helfer and other voices came together to help Humane Society of the United States HSI in making this video. audiovisual production. This production aims to raise awareness about all the suffering that animals suffer, and calls attention to consumers and policy makers to get involved with this goal, and ban cosmetic testing on animals, according to HJCK.
“We currently have abundant reliable non-animal methods to ensure product safety, so there is no excuse for making animals like Ralph suffer in cosmetic testing or its ingredients,” Jeffrey Flocken said. .

What is the story of this short film?
In the short film, Ralph, its protagonist, shows in front of the cameras during an interview, what a normal day of his working day is like. In this routine as an “assessor” inside a toxicology lab, a scene beginning shows how the rabbit explains while brushing his teeth because he has a wounded eye and doesn’t hear through one of his ears. An act that is repeated over and over again that reflects the pain of the animal and its discomfort in the back to spend several hours testing the products. In addition, he says that he was created for this task, and that he will die just like his parents and siblings. And that their children must also perform this same task for the rest of their lives.
In the next scene, the rabbit is in a ‘ready’ laboratory for further testing. In this scene the short film even shows other rabbits greeting Ralph and asking him if those who are recording him can get them out of there. “Please, friend, we’re very scared, I don’t want to die,” says one of the rabbits in captivity.
The next scene is one of the most painful and real to see, as a human hand approaches Ralph and without any contemplation applies a liquid to his right eye, which was still in good condition. Surely, the terrible scene fails to show how much the animals suffer that are now part of the testing of beauty products.
The next prey remains devastating, as the protagonist rabbit is seen, leaving the laboratory with an orthopedic neck, with both eyes affected, with a wound in his back and usually with injuries all over his body, generated by the amount of chemicals tested on it to the point that it can no longer see.
To close the short-minute short, people can read a phrase that says, “No animal should die and suffer in the name of beauty.”

This idea was developed by actor, writer, comedian and producer Taika Waititi, who plays Ralph, and was directed by film director Spencer Susser.
“It’s very important for Ralph to feel real because he represents countless real animals that suffer every day,” said director Spencer Susser, who also stated, “Animals for cosmetic testing in labs have no choice and it is our responsibility to do something about it.When the opportunity arose to create a new campaign for Humane Society International, I felt that stop motion was the perfect way to get the message across.
When you see the horrible reality of the way animals are treated, you can’t help but look away. What I was hoping to do with this film was create something that conveys a message without being too heavy. I hope the public falls in love with Ralph and wants to fight for him and other animals like him, so that we can ban animal testing once and for all, ”he said in statements quoted by HJCK.
Meanwhile, thousands of social media users who watched the video, protested in accordance with the intention of the production, the non-use of animals in beauty and cosmetology tests, as they did foundations and organizations that urged consumers to make sure the products they buy have not been tested on animals.

Animal abuse figures
In fact, the figure is outrageous. More than 12 million animals a year are used to test cosmetics in the EU and 115 million if we talk worldwide where countries like the United States, Taiwan, China or Germany are the most tested.
In February 2003, the EU banned cosmetic testing on animals and is a two-stage process. The first phase was introduced in 2009 and made it illegal to experiment with cosmetic ingredients in animals anywhere in the EU, the sale or import of any ingredient for use in cosmetics and finished cosmetics that are the result of actions with animals in laboratories.
The second phase was implemented in 2013 and affected all those products that had to be tested for toxicity. This phase has a 10-year extension so that it can be implemented so that these practices can continue to be carried out until 2023.
However, products are still being tested on animals because in the same law passed, the trap can be found that brands can be exempted from it if they prove that they do not have a reliable alternative system.
Finally, it should be noted that this humanizing campaign of this rabbit is mainly focused on reaching 16 countries which include Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, South Africa and 10 nations in Southeast Asia with more partner organizations. . The organization and the “Save Ralph” campaign wants these countries to understand that animals suffer and suffer pain, and the production and market of their products must be free from all animal cruelty.
Currently, more than 2,000 “animal cruelty-free” beauty brands are available worldwide, including Lush, Garnier, Dove, Herbal Essences, and H&M. These companies produce safe products using ingredients with a track record. safe to use in conjunction with animal-free safety assessment tools.
