Los Angeles County continues to experience a decline in COVID-19 as other states see an increase

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – While there is a further increase in COVID-19 cases in other parts of the country, Los Angeles County continues to see a downward trend, even as vaccination efforts.

The county has administered about 5.2 million doses of vaccine, more than two-thirds of which were the first vaccines.

Starting Wednesday, California’s MyTurn website will begin scheduling appointments for residents 16 and older.

Recent efforts include bringing vaccine clinics to underserved communities.

The county has just opened a site in the Chinatown. About 100 people lined up Monday morning to shoot them. The site is aimed at residents aged 65 and over who have difficulty reaching other vaccination centers.

“That’s a lot more convenient for a lot of people,” said county supervisor Hilda Solis. “Being able to come to them instead of making them drive or get in the car and even travel to bigger PODs (distribution points) is insurmountable.”

The county’s director of public health, Dr. Barbara Ferrer, said Monday that the county’s daily case numbers are now lower than they were a year ago, when the pandemic began.

But the shortage of vaccines remains a challenge for the county, which has much more capacity to deliver doses than it is actually receiving.

“Currently, this week the county has the capacity to administer 734,000 doses of vaccine, which is more than double the number of vaccines we have received,” Ferrer said.

In the meantime, your next trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain may be just for thrills.

LA County says it will close the vaccination center there Sunday.

The theme park of Valencia reopened to the public recently, with the COVID-19 protocols.

Instead, the county is opening two new vaccination sites at the Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center and the College of the Canyons.

Between these two points up to 4,000 shots a day can be administered.

The site of the Magic Mountain has so far eliminated nearly 130,000 vaccines.
