Boston wins first of the day and ranks 8 wins

MINNEAPOLIS – Nathan Eovaldi threw five innings effectively and the Boston Red Sox stretched to eight on their winning streak, beating the Minnesota Twins 3-2 to start a double-header Wednesday.

Christian Arroyo, Alex Verdugo and Xander Bogaerts provided two hits each for Boston, immersed in their longest winning streak since 2018. The Red Sox are the first team since the 1991 Seattle Mariners to lose at least three games in starting the campaign and then chaining to at least seven wins, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Eovaldi (2-1) allowed two runs — five hits. Matt Barnes closed to credit his second savior after opening by awarding a ticket.

Kenta Maeda (1-1) charged with defeat, punished by the Minnesota defense in the second inning, including a poor shot from him that led to a run. He threw 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs.

For the Red Sox, the Mexican Executioner 4-2. Dominicans Rafael Devers 4-1; and Franchy Be 2-1, one scored. Venezuelan Marwin González 3-1, one scored.

For the Twins, Dominicans Nelson Cross 2-1; and Jorge Polanco 3-1, two towed. The Venezuelans Luis Arráez 4-0 and Williams Astudillo 3-0.
