Stroman shines and Mets sweep double day

NEW YORK – Marcus Stroman was right. He was more than ready to throw.

Back on the mound, two days after an abbreviated opening, Stroman threw six flawless innings and the New York Mets whitewashed the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0 on Tuesday, swept into a double billboard.

Brandon Nimmo hit three hits and pushed three runs as a first bat. Dominican Jonathan Villar defined the first game with a single and added a double producer in the second.

Stroman (2-0) outscored Aaron Nola ace in the pitching duel.

“I think we managed to play two good games in a row today,” Stroman said.

The double round became necessary after Monday night’s game at Citi Field was suspended due to rain. The games were played in seven innings, in compliance with the rule established since the 2020 campaign, abbreviated by the pandemic.
