It is rumored that Apple is re-preparing third-generation Apple Pencil

Apple is preparing to launch a third-generation Apple Pencil, according to a leaker from Chinese social networking platform Weibo, which suggests it could appear alongside the new iPads at Apple’s upcoming April “Spring Loaded” event.

The claim comes from Weibo’s “Uncle Pan Pan” account, which has little track record for sharing accurate Apple information, though it was the first to share images that allegedly show new colors for the iPhone box collection Apple’s Spring 2021 12.

While the latest statement should be taken with a grain of salt, it goes back to the image shared last month by a test taker who allegedly shows a third-generation “Apple pencil”.

In addition to a bright look, the input device shown in the image looks very similar to the current second-generation “Apple stylus,” which was introduced with the iPad Pro 2018. The second-generation device it is shorter than the original version and is inductively charged.

The ‌Apple Pencil‌ depicted also appears to have a considerably larger tip component than in existing versions, with a much longer section screwed into the ‌‌Apple Pencil‌‌ itself, possibly hinting at a new technology to support additional features or provide an accuracy of larger drawing.

Apple continues to sell the first-generation “Apple Pencil,” primarily to attract owners of the eighth-generation iPad and iPad mini 5, as the second-generation version only works with the “iPad Pro.” An Apple Pencil 3 could theoretically provide new features exclusive to Apple’s upcoming iPad Pro.

Apple is expected to use its April 20 event to introduce a new 11-inch, 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with the high-end model with a new mini-LED display. Well connected Bloomberg Journalist Mark Gurman believes that these new iPads will be an “iterative update” of the “iPad” line.

In today’s Weibo post, “Uncle Pan Pan” also shared an image that allegedly showed AirPods 3, though Apple is not expected to release the third iteration of “AirPods” until the third quarter of this year, which would rule them out of the Apple event in April.
