Since the first reports of Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda were flooded (which, of course, turned out to be completely accurate), there have been rumors of additional acquisitions from video game companies. However, so far, none of these speculations have had any real weight.
There is a new rumor, however, that comes from a reputable source in Bloomberg, Japan. According to a recently released report, several parties are interested in getting Japanese publisher Square Enix. However, this report is quite light on the details: we don’t know if it refers to Square Enix as a whole, Square Enix’s video game business, or Square Enix’s broader entertainment business.
As such, we wouldn’t jump to any conclusions yet, but that warning won’t stop people from provoking some rampant online speculation. After all, the aforementioned $ 7.4 billion acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft makes it feel like anything is possible, even though buying Square Enix is supposed to be much more expensive.
Of course, it’s hard not to think about Sony’s situation right now as well. The PlayStation maker is clear that it has a very close relationship with Square Enix right now, such as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (June), Final Fantasy XVI (TBA) and Forspoken (2022), all of which are exclusive to the PS5 console. . But then, Bethesda had made deals with Sony on Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo, right?
But again, we still wouldn’t read too much in this report. Massive companies always weigh their options, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything will really happen. If you start writing more information in the near future, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
