Private quarterbacks coach John Beck, a former NFL quarterback who spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, Washington Football Team and Houston Texans, has worked with former Ohio quarterback Justin Fields this offseason. Fields, of course, is the favorite to be ranked No. 3 overall by the San Francisco 49ers.
Beck has also been working with Trey Lance of the state of North Dakota and Zach Wilson of BYU.
This week Matt Barrows of The Athletic wrote a report on Beck. The quarterback turned coach worked with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan during their time together in Washington, and the two remain close. This has probably been very beneficial as the Niners continue to gather information about Fields to accompany the duties of Trey Lance of the state of North Dakota and Mac Jones of Alabama.
“Knowing I’ve been (Fields) for the last three months, he’ll get in touch and just want to ask questions or talk,” Beck told Athletic. “… I know how he’s going to train the quarterbacks. I know what he’s looking for. So I think it’s an easy extension of Kyle in terms of the eyes I have for the quarterbacks.”
According to Michael Silver of NFL Media, Beck isn’t the only resource linked to Fields that has ties to Shanahan. Another private coach who has been working with the former Buckeye is Ron Veal (h / t to Patrick Tulini for finding).
Veal was reportedly an original staff member of the QB Collective, an organization made up of NFL coaches and experts who work with young quarterbacks. The QB collective has ties to Kyle and his father, Mike Shanahan, and Veal remains “very involved.”
END 1) There has been a lot of talk recently about the connection between John Beck, who is coaching Justin Fields in private, and Kyle (and Mike) Shanahan, who were Beck’s OC and HC, respectively, when he backed up Washington in 2010 -11. Here is another layer to consider …

Jones had been the favorite to land with San Francisco through the draft. However, since Fields training against several NFL teams this week, including the 49ers, the Ohio State product now has the best chances of heading into the Bay Area. Fields is also a fan favorite, who would love to see the dynamic pin paired with a brilliant call like Shanahan.
The 2021 NFL draft is scheduled to begin on April 29 and will be held in Cleveland, Ohio.

Silver: Some believe the 49ers could recruit Justin Fields, taking Shanahan’s offense to “another dimension”

As is the case with many analysts, Marc Ross of the NFL Network sees Justin Fields of Ohio State as the best prospect compared to Mac Jones of Alabama. The former Buckeye will be celebrating a second professional day next week, but Ross believes the quarterback has already shown everything he needs to show NFL teams. “If the teams, right now, are still trying to figure out if Justin Fields is the type, then they’ve already lost the rating or not his type,” Ross told Andrew Siciliano, Bucky Brooks and Mike Silver on the NFL network. Ross points out that with teams that probably already have all the information they need about possible quarterbacks, it’s admirable that Fields is celebrating another professional day when he has little to gain. “It’s just that he’s a competitor

On Wednesday, Ohio State’s Justin Fields will do a second professional workout. Five days later, Trey Lance of the state of North Dakota will participate in his second. They both try to make sure they are selected ahead of Alabama’s Mac Jones. Trevor Lawrence of Clemson is expected to be No. 1 overall. The New York Jets are expected to select BYU’s Zach Wilson at No. 2. Assuming San Francisco targets a quarterback, leaving Jones, Fields and Lance as San Francisco options at No. 3. Jones is the favorite overwhelming to be the choice if you ask members of the national media. Fans would much prefer the more athletic prospects and with a higher ceiling than Fields or Lance. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch opted to attend Jones
